Asamoah Gyan likely to miss First Afcon match

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan and defender
John Boye are both likely to miss for the
Black Stars’ opening game against Senegal on
Monday after they were both rushed to the
hospital over the weekend with illness.
Allsports reported that Al Ain striker Gyan, has
been unable to train with the team and was
taken to the hospital on Saturday, however the
player has since been discharged.
According to reports Gyan came down with a
mild case of Malaria but responded to
treatment because the infection was detected
at an early stage.
The sports website also reported that John
Boye was taken to the newly built Mongomo
Provincial Hospital after a suspected case of
fever..
Boye had reportedly not been well since
Saturday but his condition deteriorated on
Sunday prompting the medical tean to have
him admitted
Both players are now doubts for Ghana’s
group opener on Monday although there are
suggestions that Gyan might recover in time
to lead the line for the Black Stars.
Ghana face Algeria and South Africa in a
group that is widely considered the toughest
at the tournament.
