Chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation and
former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan will
visit Nigeria from January 12 to 14 to address
a conference on electoral integrity.
The conference is being organized by a
coalition of Nigerian Civil Society
Organisations (CSOs) ahead of the country’s
general elections next month.
A statement issued by the Kofi Annan
Foundation said Mr. Annan will deliver the
keynote address at the conference which will
be held on Tuesday, January 13 in Abuja.
His address will be based on his work as
chairman of the Global Commission on
Elections, Democracy and Security and the
findings and recommendations of its report,
Deepening Democracy: A Strategy for
Improving the Integrity of Elections Worldwide.
Mr. Annan will also meet with a broad range
of Nigeria’s CSOs, as well as engage the
audience in a question and answer session.
He will also be meeting privately with various
national stakeholders engaged in the electoral
The Kofi Annan Foundation, which Mr Annan
chairs, focuses its work on peace and security,
sustainable development, human rights and to
the rule of law with the aim of helping to
create a fairer, more secure world.
As part of this work, the Foundation promotes
impartial and transparent electoral processes
through its Electoral Integrity Initiative.
